News 1 - February 4 Observed as World Cancer Day.
February 4th was observed as the World Cancer Day. This year’s theme 'We can. I can' has an objective to prove that every single individual can make a difference in fighting against cancer. World Cancer Day is observed as a part of the World Cancer Campaign.
The campaign was adopted after the World Summit Against Cancer for the Millennium, on February 4, 2000. The World Health Organization has warned that tobacco and alcohol abuse, unhealthy diets and physical inactivity enhances the risk of cancer.
News 2 - Safe Internet day observed on 9th February.
February 9th is observed as the Safe Internet Day. This year's theme was 'Play Your Part for a Better Internet'. On this occasion, social media site Facebook offered helping tips to young netizens to take more control over their security and privacy in the virtual world.
Some tips were also offered to parents to ascertain their children's safety online. Facebook's Head of Global Safety, Antigone Davis said Facebook will provide its users with tools for their safety and urged users to act responsibly.
News 3 - 13th February celebrated as World Radio Day.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on February 13th celebrated the World Radio Day. This year, the theme was “Radio in Times of Emergency and Disaster”.
World Radio Day is about celebrating radio, why we love it and why we need it today more than ever.
News 4 - February 11 observed as International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
The UN General Assembly designated February 11th as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This is aimed at complete and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.
This event is a collective effort by several UN agencies including UNESCO, UN-Women, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to recognize the importance of women and girls in scientific communities and to promote their full and equal participation in all aspects of science education and scientific careers.
